Just like with anything else, you get out of them what you put in to them.  Goats have a reputation that proceeds them. Everything from.... they eat everything to they are escape artist.

The fact is they don't eat everything. They are actually quite picky and since they are a ruminant animal their diet needs to be taken care of. Many people desire goats to keep the grass cut. Since they are not grazers they won't keep the grass cut. If you were to throw them out to pasture without feed and hay, that is when you may have an escape artist on your hands. Which leads right in to my next point.

If you meet their needs and make sure they have a friend and by friend I mean another goat. Not a horse, pig, alpaca, llama, etc and ESPECIALLY not a donkey. They need another one of themselves. Like I was saying if you meet their needs they won't escape. Secure fencing is essential.

Goats are smart, trainable, and oh so affectionate.  We are so blessed by this magnificent creation.
